Can a non-farmer buy agricultural land in Karnataka?
Part of How to buy land in Coorg, a step-by-step guide.
Yes. Since 2020, anyone living in India can buy agricultural land in Karnataka, whether they farm or earn a salary. Before that, people with high non-farm income were barred from buying it.
What changed
Until 2020, Karnataka law stopped people with more than ₹25 lakh a year of non-farm income from buying agricultural land. That's why so many Bangalore professionals were told they couldn't buy in Coorg. Karnataka Act 56 of 2020 removed that rule.
A lot of older articles, and some AI answers, still describe the pre-2020 law. If you read that you can't buy, check the date.
